Project Brief

Every product has a story behind it.The motivation is that I accidentally brought a snack with no indication that there are nuts to my friend with a peanut allergy. After this accident, I started to design this App to assist people who have a peanut allergy. KO peanut refers to Knock out peanut, a mobile application providing scanning product labels, searching items containing peanut, posting the information of product, and testing allergy.

* How might we help people with peanut allergy
to avoid food containing peanut? *

Challenges

Challenge 1: Concept Refinement: UX Research

Let’s start interviewing people!

Solution 1: Interviewing people with peanut allergy

In order to help the product approach the needs of the users, I interviewed my friends with a peanut allergy and did the research for competitors.
Here are what they said:

  • 1. It usually happens 2-3 times a year.
    2. I accidentally ate food with peanuts before, and there is no indication that there are nuts.
    3. The symptom is itchiness in my mouth, which followed by severe stomach ache and food poisoning symptoms.

People with peanut allergy have been struggling that some product labels failed to provide sufficient information regarding ingredients. Therefore, they have to worry about the food and products they choose. Even users find it difficult to quickly understand the food ingredients by using the apps of the competitors.

  • Conclusion for the interview

According to the interview, They gave me a solid context to understand their needs. How they deal with that situation is to be more aware of it. Therefore, they are highly interested in a product to solve their problem.

    Solution 2: Brainstorming ideas

In order to help them solve the problem, I brainstormed ideas as much as I could and narrowed down scope. However, I wouldn't be sure if there is any similar product in the market. So I investigated three competitors and their target audiences. The result is my idea has a strong advantage for our target audiences.

    Solution 2: Defined target audiences

    Challenge2: Building a design system.

  • 1. Building a brand identity "Natural, Trust, Healthy"
The subject of design is "knock out peanuts" so the design elements focus on the shape of peanut and multiplication. In the first beginning, I chose bright green and other Analogous colors to symbolized these three words: natural, trust, and health. However, After I created the first draft prototype, it doesn't represent the words accurately, exceptionally, healthy, which is easy to think about food without artificial colors and other processed ingredients. Therefore, I used green, brown with middle value and middle chroma.
